BFFT develops docking station for iPhones
BFFT came up with the idea of developing high-quality iPhone docking stations for models in the 5 series back in 2012. These devices are used to connect a smartphone to the electrical mains and to recharge its battery automatically.
Not only the design and parts procurement but also construction and testing of the charging stations were undertaken by BFFT. The plan for the future is to manufacture the docking stations to the highest build standard and to use an automotive-appropriate control device to install them in BFFT customers’ vehicles. This enables communication between the vehicle and the iPhone. By this means, smartphone functions can be selected and used via the vehicle’s own infotainment system. Many OEMs already use such an interface. As there is only limited scope to retrofit infotainment systems with this kind of communication interface, the subsequent connection between iPhone and vehicle is difficult to realize..
In the course of the project, BFFT was granted an official developer licence by Apple in October and, by the use of original components, fulfils its high quality standard.
