Across the Alps – BFFT take active part at Transalp
From Ruhpolding to Riva del Garda! Around 1,200 participants assembled at the start line for the 7-day Transalpine mountain bike tour which took place from 19 – 25 July. They rode for a total of 611 km right across the Alps gaining a total altitude of 20,000 metres. The route took the athletes over gravel tracks and narrow mountain roads down to Lake Garda.
Thanks to a prize draw, a member of BFFT’s staff won two starting places for the Transalpine. Through an internal lottery a race partner was quickly found and the “BFFT Team” established. In the run-up to the mountain bike event, the two young athletes spent their time in intensive preparation touring around Lake Tegernsee and through Hungary. Mid-July arrived and with it the start of the Transalpine tour, sending the two BFFTers battling through seven stages averaging 87 km/day across country towards northern Italy. On the 25th July, after exhausting days of aches and pains, the two colleagues rolled relieved across the finish line in Riva del Garda . But before heading back home to Bavaria, they couldn’t finish the trip without a jump in the lake!
