Ingolstadt Banks on Ice for the Future: BFFT & its corporate network now support the winter attraction at Parade Square (Paradeplatz).
Back in early April 2016, Audi created quite a kerfuffle amongst all of the ice-skating enthusiasts here in Ingolstadt. It announced that it would no longer support financially the ice rink at Parade Square, beginning this winter. That meant that 60,000 euros (about 50% of the financing) would no longer be available to the promotors of this beloved winter attraction. The City of Ingolstadt, which contributes the other half of the package, was not able to close this gap by itself. So it could have meant the end of our skating rink which would have upset the many friends of ice skating and Bavarian curling here.
But entrepreneur Reinhard Büchl, Jr. and the “INcity” inner city club stepped into the breach last June and brought to life something called the “Ice Heroes” campaign. In so doing, private persons and companies in the Ingolstadt region were asked to donate to save the ice surface. The response was substantial: a total of 22 companies immediately pledged their support. One of them: BFFT, the automotive technology and electronics specialist from Ingolstadt/Gaimersheim.
For BFFT and its management, family values have always been writ large and so Managing Director Markus Fichtner immediately agreed to participate in saving the ice rink. Here’s how it works: under the alliance “Family businesses for Ingolstadt”, the members have secured the financing of the ice surface for the next three years. But Mr. Büchl, Jr. and INcity are also planning already to set longer-term agreements in place with the participating companies. They also plan to bring additional companies from the region into the boat with the “Ice Heroes”.
But one thing is certain for now: this year, the beloved winter attraction will again be there in Ingolstadt’s Parade Square. Its popularity is reflected in the numbers of the past season: around 30,000 ice skaters did their laps at Parade Square and about 300,000 visitors came to watch them and visit the snack shacks and the mountain lodge. So this year again, the familiar ice surface stands ready for all aficionados of ice skating and curling. And all the familiar food and wine vendors will be back as well for the eating and drinking enthusiasts. BFFT and the other “ice heroes” are pleased that visitors and families will again be able to enjoy to the fullest the “winter wonderland” atmosphere in front of the new castle.
