Schoolgirls try their hand at men’s jobs: Girls Day at BFFT
Every year throughout Germany, an action day for young girls, the so-called “Girls’ Day” takes place in order for them to dip a toe in the waters of technical and scientific career options. The objective of the day is to awaken the interest of women into what are sometimes called “men’s jobs” and to increase the participation of women in technical careers.
BFFT supports this activity and on 28 April, invited seven girls from the 8th and 9th grades of different schools in Ingolstadt into its modern headquarters in Gaimersheim/Ingolstadt. During the course of the day, the young women were guided through different BFFT departments like vehicle testing, development infotainment and development concepts/tooling where they gained insight into various technical projects. After an ample luncheon, the schoolgirls were finally allowed to try their hand themselves and demonstrate their know-how by brazing small hearts with LED illumination.
Afterwards, there was even a feedback round about Girls Day, during which the schoolgirls were able to discuss what they enjoyed most about the day. After receiving certificates, the young ladies went on their way.
Hopefully, some of them are now so impressed by the job possibilities at BFFT that we will one day be able to greet them again as colleagues.
