There‘s something in the air – BFFT aeromotive as a partner of the Urbain Air Mobility project
The European Commission has launched the Urban Air Mobility research initiative to test new forms of urban mobility with aircraft. The goal is to solve urban transport problems. Along with five other European cities, the City of Ingolstadt is also applying to be a development center for the future project. The city has a partner on board with this project: BFFT aeromotive.
Ingolstadt will explore forward-thinking mobility concepts in collaboration with the surrounding districts, the Free State of Bavaria, and numerous industrial partners. One of these partners is BFFT aeromotive GmbH from Gaimersheim. Since 2013, the goal of this company has been to transfer automotive technologies to aviation. BFFT aeromotive intends to bring this knowledge to the Urban Air Mobility project. “I’m pleased that the City of Ingolstadt has a leading role in researching urban mobility and that we can actively shape the project with our expertise in the field of aviation,” says Ralf Rudolf, Managing Director of BFFT aeromotive GmbH. Application studies will investigate how electrically-powered aircraft can be used in the areas of safety, rescue, and passenger transport. Aside from BFFT aeromotive GmbH, the City of Ingolstadt relies on the support of other strong regional partners for the project. These include Audi, Airbus, the Technical University of Ingolstadt, and the digital business incubator brigk.
BFFT aeromotive GmbH was founded in 2013 as an independent subsidiary of BFFT Gesellschaft für Fahrzeugtechnik mbH. Since then, the company has been transferring its know-how of automotive technologies to the aviation industry. The areas of focus are the production, validation, and development of system environments for testing, analysis, and evaluation applications. The company employs 45 people across eight locations in Germany.
