Schanzer Racing Electric give another persuasive performance in Varano de’ Melegari

On the 10th September, a 20-strong Schanzer Racing Electric (SRe) team set off on the 675km (420 mile) journey to Varano de’ Melegari in Italy. From 11th to 14h September, this was the venue of the Formula SAE Italy & Formula Electric Italy.

After their unfortunate elimination in Hockenheim, the SRe team had spent the last few weeks putting all their energy into readying the racer for the Italian circuit. But before they reached the event site, the guys and gals dropped in on the BFFT premises in Sant’Agata Bolognese. Then, fortified with tasty Italian snacks, they had to head off to Varano de’ Melegari and move into the pits ready for the racing the following day. Right from the scrutineering stage, the team had far fewer problems than in Hockenheim, which allowed them to get this stage completed fairly swiftly. In terms of vehicle design SRe also came through the static disciplines well. The third day saw the cars on the circuit, where our drivers put in a thoroughly sound performance. In the auto-cross they even posted a top speed of 0.58 sec/lap, putting the Schanzer Racing Team in 4th place. The supreme discipline, the endurance race got off to a promising start. But sadly, battery overheating and radio problems meant that the SRe15 came to a halt in the 26th lap. The Schanzers nevertheless managed a creditable 6th place overall in Formula Electric Italy.

We at BFFT offers our congratulations to the Schanzer Racing Electric Team and wish them all the best for the new season!
