Swimming, cycling and running: BFFT copes with the Ingolstadt 2016 Triathlon
A little bit of rain did not stop the nearly 2,600 participating athletes from giving it their all on June 12th in the seventh edition of the Ingolstadt Triathlon. Despite the rain, they kept on going along the trusted routes of the sprint distance (0.75km swimming – 20km cycling – 5km running), the Olympic distance (1.5km swimming – 40km cycling – 10km running), as well as the middle distance (2km swimming – 77km cycling – 20.2km running) on and around the Baggersee at the start. For the first time, the event was also part of the Bundesliga Triathlon, which provided the men and women on the sprint distance with additional action from 14.45 in the afternoon.
A surprise win for the men saw Lukas Storath cross the finish line first on the middle distance in 03:37:36. In the women’s race, however, the Dutch favourite Yvonne van Vlerken won the title at the Ingolstadt Triathlon once again with a time of 03:55:59. Nicolas Daimer (01:49:56) and Julia Viellehner (02:05:55) made a clear win in the Olympic distance race.
Since 2012, BFFT has been an integral part of the Ingolstadt Triathlon and could not miss out on this year. Almost 70 female and male athletes from Gaimersheim/Ingolstadt took part for the automotive engineering and electronic specialists. The sporting event offers ideal conditions for connecting colleagues together and promoting team spirit. Months before, BFFT offered some workshops to prepare the athletes properly for the Triathlon.
Some BFFT squadrons were even able to achieve top results: Two BFFT squadrons have made it to the sprint distance and stand among the top ten (5th & 6th place out of 68 squadrons). Even the 15th place (out of 68 squadrons) of a BFFT team in the Olympic distance is worthy of all honour. In addition to the significant number of participants (in 2013, there were as much as 140 colleagues at the start), BFFT is always represented with various special events at the Ingolstadt Triathlon: A BFFT Family & Friends Area between the swimming exit and transition zone is a central meeting point for all BFFT athletes, colleagues, families, friends and fans. Starters can prepare themselves in peace for the competition there, and relax after the triathlon. In addition, snacks and drinks are made available throughout the day. As a special treat, there were masseurs on site who soothed tired muscles back into shape. Also available were mini-goal posts where participants could get adequate exercise between races.
Activating measures like these recently contributed to a BFFT Award for “Best Employer Brand 2016”. It is therefore strongly expected that BFFT will once again be very well represented at the Ingolstadt Triathlon next year, and will diligently throw itself in the floods, turn those pedals and cross the Baggersee on foot. Thanks again to the great BFFT Triathlon team – winner of hearts in 2016!
